Natural Remedy to Stop Snoring
Finding a natural remedy for snoring is not that easy. You need to first find out what are the underlying causes. Take note, snoring is an affliction not similar to a common cold. Common colds can easily inflict you; however, snoring is something which normally and slowly arrives over time. Most people cannot even remember the time when they have started to snore. For most people, it happens during their mid 30’s where a vague description has been given to such response.
The approach on the lifestyle of a person can be used to remedy your snoring naturally. Snoring is not treated as a disease or a condition rather as a warning or a symptom indicating that your body in not anymore balanced.
Some people might consider snoring as a proximity ground alarm within a modern aircraft. It serves as a warning to pull the aircraft up when it gets too close on the ground when it is not supposed to. You will be thankful to hear such alarm if you are the aircraft’s pilot. It can automatically save you and all your passengers aboard before terrible consequences arrive. The siren can be very annoying once it has been activated but much less painful compared to accidents. Likewise snoring is also very annoying but it is only a sign posted to a person that something might be wrong.
The projected results of snoring can be very alarming. But you must learn that recent studies and research have associated snoring to various serious health conditions which include coronary disease and hypertension.
Remember, your body is an amazing machine. It is capable of regulating complex arrays of electrical processes and interacting chemicals within good tolerances. Homeostasis of the body has the ability to balance your internal system including acid-base balancing, body temperature, and blood pressure despite the changes on your external environment.
But if your body has been subjected to a persistent extreme condition outside its normal bounds of functioning then it can possibly fail to rectify such situation without any help. Take for example, every time your body feels cold, it will start to shiver so that your body temperature is maintained. However, when your body is exposed to sub zero temperatures with no external heating, shivering alone cannot help you in stopping an expected deadly conclusion. Nevertheless, your shivering act is a warning itself telling you to do something to fight the coldness, like putting on warmer clothes.
There are several causes why people tend to snore. It includes your sleeping position where it is more likely to activate a person’s snoring when he or she is sleeping on his or her back. Another is the food as well as the drinks they intake. Alcohol in particular can relax your throat muscles; however it can cause you to snore. In addition, food allergies also increase the production of mucus in your nasal passages and throat. The most common contributor is excess weight. People who are obese are carrying extra weigh on the neck putting pressures on their airways causing snoring.
Snoring is the result of various balance upsets including your breathing, levels of stress, diets, as well as the physical environment. If you naturally work on these contributing factors then two essential things can happen. You are going to put an end with your snoring problems and acquire a more healthy body.

The mildest form of sleep related respiratory disorder is intermittent snoring, which is primarily a nuisance without significant well being consequences. The most severe type of disordered breathing is the “obesity-hypoventilation syndrome” which is associated with serious morbidity and essentially astronomical mortality. Between these two extremes are persistent snoring, upper airway resistance syndrome, and OSA Syndrome.
With snoring, the airway collapses partially causing the soft tissues in the rear portion of the throat to vibrate as air passes through the narrowed airway, resulting in a snoring sound. Snoring in its most common cases is a social complication and has not been thought as a critical illness by the medical community to date. Snoring can be a nuisance to bed partners and is an indicator the snoring person may have, or develop, a more severe form of OSDB complication at an older age. The National Sleep Foundation states one-third or more of adults snore at a minimum a few nights/week. Snoring is supplementary prevalent in men.
So why do snoring occur? Poor muscle tone in the muscles of the tongue and throat that permit the tongue to fall back into the airway. This happens when the person’s muscle control is too relaxed; this can be induced by alcohol or other drugs that cause sleepiness. It also occurs to a large amount of people when they can relax to a deep stage of sleep.
How do we stop snoring? By following simple exercises, that can be done from the comfort of your home. All it takes is 2-3 minutes of stop snoring exercises a day you can stop snoring. Exercises could be compared to chewing on a piece of gum, or vocal exercises a singer would practice, and a few more exercises that are more in-depth.

The basis of snoring is vibration of the tissues that occurs in the breathing process. Some medications and alcohol can lead to enhanced relaxation during sleep. As the muscles of the palate, tongue, neck, and pharynx become relaxed and rested, the airway collapses more. This leads to a lessened airway and greater tissue vibration. Some medications encourage a deeper total quantity of sleep, but at the same time can worsen snoring.
Medications such as sleeping pills and muscle relaxants can highly worsen the noise levels at which one snores. These types of medications are design to ease tension and relax the body. So by knowing that these medications will affect a snorer in this way, it is know that our muscle tissue in the throat region is what causes snoring, and doing exercises to strengthen these muscles can extremely lessen snoring or even cure it altogether.
The same goes for alcohol. When alcohol beverages are consumed our bodies are greatly affected. There is a slower reaction times due to relaxed muscles. With more excessive drinkers that drink to the point of “passing out” this is where the body cannot take anymore and just turns off snoring can be to the point where it would be considered apnea. The muscles in the body become relaxed from the alcohol and are less responsive. Increasing snoring and possibly leading to apnea.
By seeing that both medication and alcohol that relax the muscles will increase snoring, it is safe to say that by strengthen and firming the muscles in the throat, one can lessen or more likely totally cure snoring for good.

Has it occurred to you that sometimes you cannot fall sleep as your partner is snoring all night? Well, if that’s your case, as you already know you are not the lonesome soul with this problem. This is probably unknown for a good amount of folks that nearly 50%of adult individuals and partners snore a few times and 25% snore every night. Snoring is more impending to come about in males and those through with overweight problems, and it gets worse with older age adults. But, did you ever wonder how the noisy sound of snoring is produced?
Snoring happens when air cannot flow without restraint through the passages at the returning of the mouth and nose. This area is the collapsible portion of the airway at which the tongue and upper throat equate the palate and uvula. When the lower tissue hit upper tissue in the throat, there is vibration and subsequently snoring occurs, and then we can hear a highly annoying noise. Snoring can be a critical crisis socially as well as medically. Socially speaking, it causes the snorer an object of ridicule if a prone snorer falls asleep in a public place and starts snoring, and it can also be harmful by keeping a snorer’s partner awake and disallowing them to get to sleep or by awakened them slowly but surely when the noise of the snorer is heard. Medically speaking, the snorer cannot rest appropriately either, and if someone’s snoring gets severe, it can hint at critical sleep disorders as if obstructive sleep apnea.

Whatever the reason for your chronic, continuous snoring, be it that you’re getting older, drunker or fatter, you’re probably getting on your bedmate’s nerves, not to mention wiping out any chance they have for a good night’s sleep. Trust me. Now, I’m not talking about the occasional ‘mild’ snoring that you do when you sleep in a certain position, or when you have a cold – we all do it. My dog snores. Babies snore. I’m talking about those loud, intolerable, ground shaking snuffelupagus snores that just won’t quit, minute after minute, night after night.
I read somewhere that sleep partners of heavy snorers awaken over twenty times per hour. Holy sleep deprivation, Batman! Do yourself and your slumber buddy a favor and take care of it.
First, you need to rule out sleep apnea. If your partner notices that while you are asleep you literally stop breathing for, like 10 seconds or more at a time, or you wake up *super tired* and you’re excessively sleepy during the day, then you could have sleep apnea. It’s a life-threatening condition and you probably don’t even know you have it. It needs to be diagnosed by a doctor or a sleep specialist. Make an appointment with an ENT, an otolaryngologist (say that 3 times fast) or sleep clinic. Do it right away.
Plain old snoring, not to be confused with sleep apnea, is characterized by loud breathing sounds, dry mouth when you wake up, no excessive sleepiness during the day and no cessation of breath while you are snoring. It happens when the tissue at the back of your throat vibrates because you either have too much tissue or you have jiggly tissue that vibrates easily. It can also happen when your tongue obstructs your respiration. If you’re single, then you might not even know you snore. However, if you don’t feel rested when you wake up, it could be the result of nighttime snoring. Maybe you should video tape or audio tape yourself in bed…sleeping. That’s always fun.
The reason you snore may not be your fault but it is still completely annoying. You may have been born with a narrow throat or developed a narrow throat around middle-age. Men generally have more narrow air passages than women, so you have that going for you if you’re a guy. Or maybe you have chronic allergies, or sinus infections. Been there. But when it comes to things that you have control over, like how much you drink or smoke (okay, maybe you don’t have control over those), or how fat and/or out of shape you are, or if you sleep on your back, then you might try controlling those things. You’ll realize general health benefits and probably see an end to your snoring condition. When my guy Todd gets just a few pounds overweight, there he goes. Snores like a freight train until he loses the weight.
If you can’t stop getting older, or stop drinking, smoking, having infections, being male, being fat or lumpy, or sleeping in the wrong position, then I suggest you consider the following:
1. Get a special snore-no-more anti-snoring pillow designed to support and position your head correctly.
2. Get a simple snoring device for inside your mouth, like the Snore Wizard.
3. Try sleeping without a pillow at all. Ummm…yeah.
4. Attach something bulky and uncomfortable to your back. It will train you to sleep on your side if you are a chronic back sleeper.
5. Elevate the head of your bed by four or so inches. It supposedly makes your tongue and jaw move forward.
6. Skip that second martini and lay off the ice cream before bed. Both alcohol and high-fat dairy/soy products can cause problems. Alcohol, because it relaxes your airways; and dairy because it creates mucus in your throat.
7. Blow your nose. Boogers are not your friend. If you’re really stuffed up then try some nasal strips, but avoid antihistamines because they relax your throat muscles.
8. Consult your doctor to see if you are a candidate for surgery or a CPAP device (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure). A CPAP forces air into your mouth through a mask and makes you breath.
I’m sorry you snore, but see, there are things you can do about it. Or, if you are the victim of a snorer, then print this article, highlight the headline and leave it on your partner’s pillow.
Let’s make this a better world, people, one night at a time.

Sleep apnea is a sleeping disorder that occurs when people stop breathing while they sleep.
Snoring is the first symptom and a good sign that you are vulnerable to this sleeping disorder. You can tell if you have apnea or close to the point of have apnea if your snoring occurs in multiple positions for example snoring your back, or on your sides are significant signs of sleep apnea.
Snoring is the noise made when the air that is breathing in and out is passing through a partially obstructed airway. Obstruction can occur either within the airway itself or blockage from the opening of the airway or from pressure form around the airway that is closing it off.
Obstruction of the airway is mainly caused by the muscle at the back of throat being so loose and flabby that is falls and blocks the airway.
During sleep every muscle in the entire body is in a relaxed state. With the muscle at the back of the throat being loose and flabby when it relaxes it falls and blocks the airway, sometimes partially which cause snoring or totally blockage which will cause apnea.
Sleep apnea can happen between one and one hundred times during the night. Remember apnea is when you stop breathing now imagine this happen almost one hundred times during the night while your sleep. Think of how this will affect you. It will make you not have a restful night sleep during the night, because each time you wake you stop breathing, no oxygen goes to your brain and other vital organs in your body so you wake up tossing around, most likely in a panic. Because of the lack of oxygen to the brain you don’t remember of it in the morning, but you think although you have had a whole night sleep yet you wake up tired.

Snoring Cures What Can I do To Help?
finding the perfect snoring cure is tough. One of the main reasons for that is everyone is different so you must treat it as such. Hopefully this article will find a cure that works for you.
People who snore can be funny but when you get to sleep with someone who snores loudly every night, it becomes annoying. That is why, it is important to know the ways to cure snoring.
Here are the following ways and methods to cure snoring:
Breathing exercise Snoring happens when there is a blockage happening in the breathing passage, particularly at the throat area. And this blockage might be because of a tensed throat, wrong positioned jaw, or stuffed nose. Take several deep breaths in order to relax the throat and make breathing normal again.
Decongestants There are instances wherein the cause of snoring is nasal congestion. Here, the person tends to breathe through his mouth which may trigger snoring. Taking decongestants will free any blockage and relieve the person from snoring.
Anti-allergy medications There are some allergies that result to the enlargement of adenoids. Once the allergy is cured, the snoring usually stops.
Exercise and proper diet If the person is obese, he probably snores. This is because there is fat concentration on the airways that limits the air to go in and out freely. Also, fat formation on the stomach restricts the diaphragm to perform properly. Thus, snoring occurs. In fact, around 40% of the obese population snores. Taking regular exercise and proper diet can reduce the weigh and stop snoring, not to mention other health risks associated with obesity.
Change of bed position There are occasions wherein snoring is the result of wrong sleeping position. Sometimes, sleeping with too many pillows can stretch and narrow the air passage. Use one pillow to avoid it. Also, lying on the back can cause snoring. So, a change in sleeping position can be a good help.
Change of lifestyle Smoking and alcohol can contribute to the onset of snoring. Snoring may be a result of other medical conditions caused by these two. So, to maintain a good and healthy life, the person should stop or reduce smoking and alcohol intake, which in turn can cure snoring.
Review medications Antihistamines, sleeping pills, and other types of medications can worsen snoring.
Regular sleeping habits There are two periods of sleep: the REM sleep where the person experiences frequent dreaming and deep sleep, and the Stage 1 sleep which should only be experienced during falling asleep but can also be experienced several times if the person is sleeping poorly. Both can trigger the development of unstable breathing that can cause snoring. Irregular sleeping can also cause respiratory instability that result to unstable breathing during sleep.
Saltwater nasal droops Nasal congestion caused by mucus can disrupt sleep and can cause snoring. To prevent this, saltwater nasal drops can be used to flush out the mucus. There are over the counter saltwater nasal drops available in drugstores. However, you can also make it on your own. Dissolve ¼ teaspoon of salt in 8 ounces of sterilized water. Let the water cool down to body temperature and place it to a nose dropper.
However, if snoring is caused by other serious condition such as sleep apnea and enlargement of adenoids and/or tonsils, some surgical procedures like Laser Assisted Uvula Palatoplasty (LAUP) and radio frequency tissue ablation (RFTA) or Somnoplasty can be applied. It is important therefore to know the exact cause of snoring before taking any action.

The British Snoring Association describe snoring as being a result of sound vibrations of the soft palate and other tissues in the mouth, nose and throat region; turbulences inside the airway caused by a blockage or restriction in the nasal, mouth or throat. The blockage leads to the turbulent breathing which causes the vibrating tissue; as you are asleep your muscles cannot control the vibrations you end up snoring like a hog. Simple remedies for snoring include raising the top of your mattress or ensuring you buy a firm mattress that will support your posture. Now, although they say snoring can be annoying and has been known to break up marriages, there are many advantages to snoring.
Firstly, when you come home drunk, much to the annoyance of your partner, and pass out your snoring is an indication that you are in fact still alive and that you haven’t fallen unconscious or choked on you vomit.
Secondly, its is estimated around 15 million people in the UK snore leading to the thought that perhaps we are meant to snore and in fact you non-snorers are the freaks!
Thirdly, enjoy having the bed to yourself? Instead of politely telling your partner to shift it to the spare bedroom just take up snoring, give it a week and you’ll be in separate beds with no hurt feelings!
Fourthly, annoying neighbors in the flat next door, your nightly snores will get payback guaranteed- no repercussions ensured, you can’t help if you were blessed with a wonky beak can you?! For a truly earth shattering snore make sure you sleep on your back, that’ll teach them! Fifthly, call us vain but there is something quite satisfying knowing that you make an impact on the world even when you’re sleeping!
Sixthly, why be ashamed of a habit that you share with some of the greatest leaders that have ever existed; the celeb snoring gang includes famous names such as Winston Churchill, Franklin Roosevelt, Queen Victoria, Abraham Lincoln, pint-sized actor Tom Cruise, screen legend Elizabeth Taylor and funny-man Billy Connelly.
Seventhly, early primitives used snoring as means to scare away predators whilst they sleep; the modern man uses it to scare ugly one night stands away.
On a final note it is worth pointing out that the majority of people do not actually know they snore leading to the somewhat irrational theory that perhaps the 14 million of us who do snore are only aware of this factor because of a whining partner, the rest of the population probably do snore but it has not yet been brought to their attention, leaving them to live in blissful ignorance. So in conclusion we snorers aren’t all that bad, going by the evidence it is in fact a sign of excellence and a primitive skill that can be utilized in the trickiest of situations. We should be celebrating snorers instead of forcing them to wear unattractive nasal strips or lie atop uncomfortable orthopaedic pillows. Anyone for a National Pro-Snoring Week?

We all need sleep. No matter your age you need to sleep, some more than others. When we sleep our bodies regenerate cells. Most of the human body healing process occurs when we are asleep getting rest. When we are asleep we also regenerate muscle tissue.
Not enough sleep causes a decrease in performance and concentration. When someone is lacking the rest that the body and mind needs, their reaction time can be much slower than someone with a full nights rest, and learning of new information can be near impossible. There is much great chance of accidents or injuries to occur. Memory lost is a big side affect along with mood swings and behavioural problems. Most of the problems can be resolved as soon as the human body gets the proper rest.
If we miss out on sleep night after night we build up what is called “sleep debt”. Sleep debt can cause a huge decrease in your day time performance and your work can be greatly affected. Some causes of lack of sleep are stress, anxiety. Loud sleep environments. Not the right temperature. Some people prefer a cool place to sleep some rather a warm place. Studies have link lack of sleep with weight gain and psychiatric disorders.
If you share a bed with a person that snores there is a good chance you are not getting adequate sleep. Someone else snoring can keep you up all night which makes it hard on your body the next day. If they keep snoring night after night and your sleep debt keeps building up time and time again, you are putting yourself and everyone around you at risk.
There are simple affective ways to battle your lack of sleep due to some snoring next to you. All you need to do is get the snorer follow some simple exercises. You being kept awake by someone else’s snoring can now be a thing of the past.
Is someone snoring keeping you awake, or have you been cured or know someone that has cured there snoring? come by this weekly updated blog and read or leave a story. http://naturallystopsnoring.blogspot.com/

Although males snore more than females by an average of 15%, all people snore. If you’re overweight, stressed out, or gaining in years, you’ll snore, though it’s harmless, generally. You will be the butt of jokes, however, it you snore too loudly.
Tonsillitis, breathing disorders, sinusitis, obesity, hay fever, and the common cold are typical causes of snoring. Other causes are aging, alcohol intake, viral infections, and a few medications. The sleeping position is also a cause for snoring.
Soft tissues gravitate backwards when you sleep on your back. The airway is constricted and airflow is restricted, causing a person to snore more loudly.
A narrow throat or a large tongue triggers snoring, as well as smoking. You must not ignore the fact that you snore in frightening stops and starts. Address your snoring to the doctor right away.
Practical Snoring Remedies
Snoring deprives you of sleep and does not only wake other people. You are left stressed with a headache in the morning as you end up waking up and gasping for air.
To stop snoring, use these easy treatments:
* Provide your head a better angle with a position, or sleep on your side.
* Shed weight.
* Stop imbibing alcohol and smoking.
* Try an over-the-counter nasal strip to widen your nostrils.
* When sleeping, wear clothes that are comfortable.
If you are sleeping by your lonesome, have a tennis ball sewn to the back of your night clothes. Because the ball on your back will be uncomfortable, you’ll be reminded to sleep on your side. If these easy remedies don’t help, have a family member to observe your snoring so you can figure out if you need the help of sleep specialists.
See a Doctor
Seek medical attention if you snore unusually loudly every night. How long you are not breathing can be determined with a sleep study in the hospital.
Snoring in children is not common. If your child has ADHD, daytime fatigue, high blood pressure, poor school performance, learning difficulties, and wets his bed, have him assessed for sleep apnea.
Treatments
There are various treatments for different sleeping disorders:
* Surgery to alter a deviated septum or enlarged tonsils.
* Stiffening the palate by palatoplasty surgery or injection.
* Wearing a CPAP mask during sleep.
* Stopping a large tongue from blocking the air passage with dental applications.

You may think that snoring is not bothering you. You seem to sleep well through the night and no one else in the house is complaining. What reason is there, then, to stop snoring? There are numerous reasons. You may think you feel fine, but studies show that snoring has a huge social and psychological impact. Del Mar, stop snoring should be on your priority list. Here’s why:
Restful sleep depends on three factors: quality, quantity and REM. If any of these factors are interrupted, you can be losing rest without even realizing it. Snoring especially effects quality of sleep and REM activity. This is due to the noise. You may not consciously hear yourself snore but your sleep patterns will be affected which will affect your daily routine. A natural progression of sleep patterns is needed for restful sleep. If these patterns are disrupted, you could wake up tired. A good indicator of how often you achieve REM sleep is dreaming. If you rarely dream, you are probably not reaching REM sleep which is the most restful sleep.
Work performance is usually the first thing that is affected by poor sleep patterns caused by snoring. Poor concentration, memory loss and poor job performance are common. Tardiness and truancy may also become problems as you become more tired and your condition becomes progressively worse. To restore restful sleep patterns and perform delicate tasks at work, you need to stop snoring and start sleeping.
Snoring can also affect your home life. Irritability, fatigue and lack of participation are all symptoms of sleep disrupted by snoring. But you may not know what is going on. Symptoms normally appear so gradually that it makes it hard to make the connection. Your situation could be pretty severe before you realize that you have a problem.
If you notice any of the symptoms mentioned above, it is imperative that you stop snoring. Sometimes all that is needed is a slight adjustment. In many case, a change in sleep positions is all that is needed. Back sleepers often get much relief from sleeping on their side. There are several oral devices that work as well. Jaw retainers are especially helpful. Surgery may even be an option in severe snoring cases. The point is that there are treatments that work. There is no reason to suffer with a snoring condition.

Valerian is an extract of the Valerian root (Valeriana officinalis) and is widely prescribed in Europe for the treatment of insomnia. Valerian is available as a supplement in the US. In an early study, 166 volunteers were given Valerian, a Valerian containing commercial product, or placebo. After three doses, Valerian was associated with a significant decrease in the time it takes to fall asleep and improvement in sleep quality. Sleep was better in the pure Valerian extract than in the proprietary product Hova®, which contains Valerian extract. This study did not measure, however, how well the blinding worked, which is important because Valerian has a strong and distinctive smell.
An uncontrolled study of 54 subjects showed a reduction in heart rate, blood pressure, and subjective distress to a stressful task after receiving Valerian. This study suggests that valerian may have sedative properties. Another study of 16 patients with sleep disorders randomly assigned patients to two doses of Valerian or a placebo nightly and measured EEG measures of sleep as well as subjective reporting of sleep quality while patients were sleeping in a sleep laboratory. Side effects include vivid dreams in as many as 16% of cases, and less commonly drowsiness, depression, dizziness, headaches or blurred vision. When the patients were given a single dose of Valerian, the lower does had no effects on subjective or EEG measures of sleep. Because of inconsistent results and no clear mechanism by which Valerian could treat insomnia without significant side effects I think that large, properly controlled trials are needed to determine if Valerian is useful for insomnia. However in the mean time since Valerian does not have major side effects I wouldn’t necessarily discourage you from using it.
Kava (or Kava-kava) is an extract of the roots of the Polynesian plant Piper methysticum used in the South Pacific for its sedative, aphrodisiac, and stimulatory effects. Active compounds include the kava pyrones, which may have effects on the brain. Several controlled trials have shown that Kava reduces anxiety in patients with anxiety disorders. One study looked at 24 subjects with stress induced insomnia treated for six weeks with 120 mg of kava daily followed by two weeks off treatment and then Valerian for another six weeks. Both Kava and Valerian improved sleep (decreased onset, longer sleep time) and reduced stress severity. Side effects of Kava include dizziness (12%), dry mouth, gastric disturbance, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, depression, and more rarely liver failure, which has caused it to be banned in some countries. Because of the very real risk of liver failure and possibly death I would not recommend Kava for the treatment of insomnia.
Melatonin is a hormone that occurs naturally in the body and is involved in the regulation of the wake-sleep cycle. Melatonin can decrease the time it takes to fall asleep but overall has no effect on sleep time. It is popular with travelers. By taking melatonin, however, keep in mind that you are meddling with your own body’s hormonal status, which can have risks. For instance, taking melatonin may affect growth or reproductive function. Other side effects include abdominal cramps, confusion, depression, drowsiness, nausea and vomiting. I don’t see any major risks for melatonin so if you want to try it on your next plane trip across the Atlantic feel free.

Sources of information and advice about insomnia are seemingly everywhere: magazines, websites, and TV health shows. Some of the information is valid, but individual cases are characterized by particular elements that are a vital part of the general picture and must be considered. Following are some of the most important facts about insomnia that may help you improve night sleep.
First and foremost, if you’ve been prescribed sleeping pills, do not take them for more than three weeks. Such drugs are only a temporary solution for the problem; they treat only the symptom of sleeplessness through a chemical reaction. The root cause of the problem needs to be addressed in order to make a lasting change. Sleeping pills are highly addictive and in some cases will worsen insomnia.
Certain chemicals in the body are responsible for good or bad sleep. Normally, a human growth hormone is secreted during the night that ensures high quality sleep. As we age, there is a decrease in the levels of this particular hormone; thus insomnia cases are more frequent with elderly people. Chronic insomnia has also been associated with low levels of melatonin, a hormone secreted by the pineal gland. Various stress hormones may also play a significant role in sleep patterns, although there are all sorts of contradictory studies on how sleep is influenced by excessive secretion of these hormones.
Sleep is absolutely necessary for the recovery of the organs and the proper functioning of the body. Medical research about insomnia proves that sleeping disorders prevent the proper function of the immune system. Without enough sleep, fatigue and a compromised ability to fight diseases are the results. People who suffer from chronic insomnia are more prone to infections than those who have a normal sleep-wake cycle. The existent facts about sleeping disorders prove that there is a connection between high stress levels and immune system dysfunctions. Solving one problem would definitely imply improvement of the other.
There are certain foods and beverages that may cause insomnia. Those containing caffeine are the first ones to blame for sleepless nights. Facts about insomnia indicate that many people who develop sleeping disorders overuse products that contain caffeine: tea, coffee, soda or energy drinks. Furthermore, the combination of such beverages with alcohol is even more detrimental to the system, inducing a state of hyper-agitation and anxiety that is incompatible with tranquil sleep. In order to improve your night’s sleep, it is of vital importance to actually identify and eliminate the behavioral patterns that are triggering the difficulties.

Snoring is a surprisingly common problem. Everyone snores at some time to a lesser or greater degree and even animals can snore in their sleep. In some cases it is nothing to worry about and may simply be a result of overindulging in alcohol or incorrect sleeping posture. In other cases it is an indication of a more serious problem, and may lead on to serious medical problems, not to mention being kicked out of bed every night so your partner can get some sleep.
The cause of snoring is reasonably well known. The airway is narrowed and the snoring sound is produced(mostly due to vibration of loose tissue in the rear of the throat). This article doesn’t spend much time on that, but rather addresses ‘the causes of the cause’ as suggesting widening your airways as a solution to snoring does not really help anyone. Understanding what causes the airway to narrow in the first place is much more useful in looking for solutions to your snoring problem and consequently improving your health, your sleep and in all likelihood your relationship.
There are a number of causes which are beyond our control. These include:
-
Genetics – Snoring can be genetic, namingly you can inherit a narrower than normal throat which will increase the likelihood of snoring.
-
Age – Age will often decrease the muscle tone in your neck and consequently narrow your throat. Generally being middle aged or older is likely to increase your chances of a snoring problem.
-
Gender – Sorry – but if you are a man you are more likely to snore. Men naturally have narrower air passages.
-
Allergies – Including colds, sinus infections and asthmatics. All of these cause breathing problems which will block the nasal airway and make breathing more difficult. The resulting vacuum in your throat leads to noisy breathing.
There is very little that can be done about any of these situations, although generally staying in good shape and health will lead to a better muscletone around the neck and throat and minimize the effects of a smaller air passage.
There are a number of other identified causes that do fall within out area of control:
-
Control your weight and shape – Any excess weight and any fatty tissue around the neck will lead to a narrower air way. Poor muscle tone is more likely to mean relaxed muscles, and overly relaxed throat muscles are likely to result on snoring.
-
Smoking – Being a smoker, or living with smokers and inhaling a large amount of second hand smoke both relaxes muscles and creates congestion in the lungs and nasal passage.
-
Alcohol and Drugs – Excessive drinking and use of some drugs can result in relaxation of the throat and tongue muscles, making snoring more common.
-
Watch Your Sleeping Posture – Sleeping on your back is more likely to relax the throat, block the airways and result in snoring.
These factors are important to understand, because by seeing what causes the problem, the solution will tend to present itself.

Stop Snoring: Free Yourself from the Irritating Snores
As you probably know, snoring can affect your relationship with your sleeping partner. They may never get any sleep at night and probably use earplugs to prevent them from hearing your snores. In some cases, your sleeping partner may even change bedrooms just to get some sleep.
If you are a snorer, you will notice that you will be sleepy during the day, irritable and can affect your productivity at work. This is because you will not only deprive your partner the sleep they need but you will also deprive yourself a good night’s sleep because of your snoring.
You may not know it but you will wake frequently from your snores or changing sleeping positions to stop the snoring. This will result in sleepiness and tiredness during the daytime.
However, aside from having problems with your relationship, what you probably don’t know is that snoring can also be a sign of other serious illnesses. Research has found that snoring is linked to heart diseases, stroke, diabetes and high blood pressure.
If you want to stop snoring, there are ways to do so. The most important aspect is by going on a diet. Studies have found that snorers are usually middle aged and overweight. Going on a diet will help you reduce or in some cases, stop the snoring.
Another way to stop snoring is by avoiding drinking alcohol and eating heavy meals before bedtime. This relaxes the muscles in your throat and will cause it to vibrate and produce the sound of snoring.
If the snoring persists or becomes worse, it is probably a good idea for you to get surgery. This procedure will tighten the tissues on your throat and eventually stop or at least minimize your snoring problem.
Following these few tips will definitely free you from snoring and give you and your partner a good night’s sleep.

If you are an insomniac, there are three insomnia solutions you can do right away that will help you. No matter what other factors might be causing your poor sleep, you can do these things immediately and have an excellent chance of helping your sleep.
The three things: Reduce caffeine, limit alcohol, and eliminate smoking.
We know how difficult this can be, so we are not going to insist that everyone do it. Instead, we want you to investigate for yourself the effects of these three things on you.
In this article we will focus on reducing caffeine.
Insomnia Solutions: Reduce Caffeine
Research presented at the 1995 meeting of the Association of Professional Sleep Societies by Dr. Michael Bonnet, a researcher with the Dayton VA Hospital in Ohio, indicates that patients with insomnia typically have a 9 percent higher metabolic rate during both day and night than people who do not have insomnia.
Even though many insomniac patients feel lethargic and slowed down, their bodies act as if they are “hyped up.” When the metabolism of normal sleepers is increased to the same level by their drinking about four cups of normal coffee, the normal sleepers too experience insomnia. The message-most patients with insomnia are hyper aroused anyway, and adding coffee makes this condition worse. (Paradoxically, hyperactive children are often helped by caffeine.)
Caffeine and similar stimulants can cause many more problems than most people realize, and too much caffeine may be a factor in your insomnia. Often, insomniacs are so exceptionally sensitive to this stimulant that they may be unable to sleep after one cup of tea or a chocolate bar in the afternoon.
One study showed that patients who had caffeine-induced wakefulness cleared caffeine more slowly from their bodies. The concentration of caffeine in their blood was higher at midnight- eight hours after afternoon coffee-than it was in other people. Also, sensitivity to caffeine can increase with age. Even if you have had coffee, tea, or cola drinks in late afternoon or in the evening in the past with no trouble, they can start contributing to poor sleep as you get older.
Consuming more than 200 mg of caffeine a day (two cups of coffee, two or three colas, or several caffeine-containing pain tablets) is likely to affect sleep and create the danger of caffeine addiction. In some people, it takes much less–one cup of coffee at lunch or one cola in the afternoon.
So surefire insomnia solutions include reducing caffeine intake.
