Stop Snoring Products – A Guide to Help the Snorers and the Sufferers

The search for stop snoring products is not a such desperate one for the snorer.  While they are happily asleep, the poor soul lying next to them, or in the next room can’t sleep. They might be desperately pulling their hair out, frustrated because they can’t sleep, as the sound of an elephant trumps in their ear, or permeates noisily through the wall.

Even at the end of your tether, you don’t want to put the snorer through surgery because as well as being expensive, it is also quite risky.  Some risks as a result of surgery might be problems with speech, extreme ear pain, scar tissue and even hemorrhaging.  So let’s look at some less perilous products to stop snoring, like drugs, devices, sleeping positions and exercises.

There are some drugs available over the pharmaceutical counter, that can help people stop snoring.  As a general rule these are designed to open the nasal passages, aid respiration and prevent deep sleep.  Obviously preventing deep sleep is far from ideal, as this can lead to all sorts of other health issues.  However, some cold and flu treatments can be beneficial to open up nasal passages and aid respiration.

There are a few stop snoring devices on the market, the majority of which are designed to prevent the snorer lying on their back.  You don’t really need to buy any of these devices like the snore ball, as you can create the same effect by using household objects to see if this will help.

By using half a tennis ball, or a ball make up from socks and attaching it to the guilty person’s small of the back, it will be uncomfortable enough to wake them up every time they lie on their back, so they learn to sleep on their side.  Some people are less likely to snore (if they snore through their mouth) when sleeping on their sides.

Stop snoring products may not even be the answer, as sometimes changing sleeping positions can actually reduce snoring.  Other than the aforementioned sleeping on one’s side, putting something under the chin can help, like a hand, pillow or a sock can help, as this means there is less loose skin to vibrate against air in the trachea.  Also putting a pillow under the small of the back is also something that can be tried, because this helps open the airways by allowing the lungs to expand more.

Some of the stop snoring products and positions can help solve the snoring problem, but quite an effective one is to do some simple exercises.  Some of these exercise include pretending to chew gum with your molars a little part, then touching lightly, with your lips closed for a minute at a time. This strengthens weak throat tissues and helps open the airways.

A couple of other good stop snoring exercises are taking a pencil and holding it between your teeth for about five minutes, and pushing your tongue against your bottom row of teeth for five minutes.  These exercises will tone the throat muscles and can help to alleviate snoring.
